Week 3 in our On Target Tracking Series
Welcome back to Toolbox Tuesday! This week we continue our On Target Tracking Series by delving into how we establish obtainable goals for our providers. This installment focuses on the elements of our Doctor Scorecards and the actionable items surrounding the data there.
Introducing the Doctor Scorecard
Our Doctor Scorecard is an integral part of our doctor development program. It helps our providers clearly understand what they need to achieve on a daily and hourly basis to reach their goals. The scorecard breaks down the annual production goals into bite-sized, manageable pieces.
Jennifer Paxton explains, “We start with the annual goal and then break it down into daily production requirements. This approach ensures that even long-term objectives feel attainable while allowing for personal milestones like vacations.”
Importance of Work-Life Balance
One of our core values is ensuring that our doctors have a healthy work-life balance. Jennifer highlights, “When you come back from vacation, plan your next one. It helps to always have something to look forward to.”
Our strategy ensures minimal impact to production during vacation times. Doctors’ scorecards are designed to adjust for the days off, and the focus is on achieving production goals before and after their time away.
Dr. Sten Ericson adds, “Booking vacations in advance not only keeps you motivated but also allows you to see an honest picture of what you need to produce.”
Tracking Progress and Trends
To ensure steady progress towards goals, it’s crucial to have an ongoing insight into trends. As Jennifer explains, “We emphasize averages over time – weekly, quarterly, and annual. This way, neither a single fantastic week nor a bad one skews the entire picture.”
Scorecards also project gross salary goals and current trends based on a 13-week average, helping providers see their progress and make necessary adjustments.
Treatment Planning and Case Acceptance
Setting goals isn’t just about numbers; it’s about understanding the processes that lead to those numbers. Jennifer mentions, “In our practices, doctors must present all treatment plans to patients. Boosting numbers artificially by planning unpresented treatment doesn’t count.”
She further elaborates, “Sometimes it’s hard to hear, but you need to prep at least two crowns per hour efficiently and effectively. This efficiency is a crucial knob to turn.”
Sten adds a practical viewpoint, “Each number is a knob we can tweak. Whether exams, treatment planning, or scheduling, each aspect has a downstream effect.”
Continuing Education and Professional Development
The scorecard keeps providers accountable and driven, not just day-to-day but also in their long-term professional growth. The equity program in our business rewards providers when they meet specific thresholds, motivating them further.
“CE benefits and equity programs are included in our scorecards,” Jennifer explains. “We want our doctors to see how investing in professional growth translates to hitting or exceeding production goals.”
Conclusion
Clear goals, consistent tracking, and an understanding of the ‘why’ behind those goals are essential for individual and practice-wide success. Our Doctor Scorecards are more than just a tool; they are a strategy for continuous growth, fulfillment, and excellence.
